On January 15, 2012, the R&GVRRM in cooperation with the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad moved its seven car ex-New York Central 'Empire State Express' train set to its new storage siding west of the LA&L mainline. With the rest of the R&GVRRM's railroad, yards, and shop of the east side of the LA&L, it was necessary to cooperate in the move with LA&L crews handling the moves on their railroad in concert with R&GVRRM Operating Department personnel on R&GVRRM trackage while utilizing R&GVRRM motive power in the form of ex-U.S. Army Fairbanks-Morse H12-44 #1843 and R&GVRR GE 80-tonner #1654. This video highlights a few of the moves including the return of several freight cars from the new siding to the R&GVRRM's Industry yard and the move of the passenger set to the new siding; built by entirely by museum volunteers to house the passenger cars. The R&GVRRM would like to thank the LA&L for their continue help and support.

  • will it sound like a EMDs did they remove the fairbanks-morse prame mover out of there ????

so bye the way Awesome video !!!!

  • @TRAINMANCW I can assure you that #1843 has its original F-M opposed piston prime mover that it was built with in 1953 for the U.S. Army. We are only the second owner! #1843 is the only operating and I think the only F-M in New York State. And thanks for the compliment! We really appreciate it!

  • I can't get enough of that enough of that engine sound and also that thing must be a cold sucker to start in the winter time.

  • @nicholassmth1 While #8143 has anti-freeze and a block heater, we still had to put it in our shop, cover the top of the hood with blankets and tarps and run 50,000 BTU salamanders inside the hood to get it warm enough to safely start on this day when the temperature finally broke a balmy 10 degrees F. Typically, #1843 sleeps away the winter while our smaller engines do the work, but this was a special occasion. Look up #1843 on our website where there are some more audio.

  • It sounds like an EMD because FM prime movers, like EMD ones, were two-cycle engines... I think that switch stand needs to be moved a bit farther from the track!
