Utah Avalanche Center Fieldwork in White Pine, Wasatch Range, Utah. A huge wind storm a couple days ago created wind slabs on top of the extremely weak, faceted snow.

Short answer is yes. But it's just not the rain crust that will create future dangerous conditions. We have a ton of other factors (facets etc) that will contribute to the avalanche danger... if it ever snows again... Watch the UAC closely, take an avy class, and I would recommend reading a book called "Snow Sense" before traveling in the side and back country.

  • so now that there is a "rain slab" and a huge deposit of snow were to fall on top of that would that be considered a dangerous avalanche condition? Im from Illinois so Ive never studied those conditions.

  • yeah this is pretty cool I didn't know that you guys had a youtube channel!
