Using the free application Backdrop, Mac OS X Lion users can hide their desktop icons.

I highly recommend this free application

  • @Dmhlcmb so true camoflage was really confusing me, was so worried coz just bought brand new MacBook Pro 13 " and all of a sudden mission control was spaked up!

  • @since1985de for the newbs don't forget the

    killall Finder

command to relaunch and the changes take effect.

  • I just use Terminal to hide Icons

    #hide desktop icons

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false

    #show desktop icons

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true

  • @Dmhlcmb it seemed nice your option but now I still have this horrible .DS_Store icon that keeps on appearing ):

  • thanks :)

  • A much easier way, that won't effect mission control...... create a folder on the desktop, put all icons in folder, put folder in documents folder. done

  • @Macintech10 Yep, I'm having that issue too!

  • @AjblueDesign Camouflage does not work properly in osx lion it makes mission control work strange.
