Best video camera ever made! I would definitely choose this over a RED one or F3. I mean you get proper 1080 progressive 3-CCDs and it has proper media unlike that SxS crap. But since I don't have a $50,000 budget for camera, I'll stick to the XF300.

Hi sethroking, This would be quite a hardcore camera for such a feat.
I would recommend something like the Sony PMW-350K firstly as it is half the price of the PDW-700, it comes with a 16x lens (the 700 does not come with a lens) and it records on solid state SxS cards so an XDCAM deck (expensive) is not require to transfer footage :)
However, if money is no object and you need 4:2:2 for chroma FX etc, then I can recommend the PDW-700. It really is a beast of a camera.

The only thing that this camera is lacking is, I believe, 24P capability. If so, this is a strictly an electronic news gathering (ENG) camera. I think that the new PDW-800 has 24P recording, and so it is more geared towards making movies. As far as 50Mbits/sec rate, I think it's still a bit starved. It's only twice the rate of HDV, although one shouldn't compare MPEG-2 with MPEG-4. I still think that the HDCAM with 144Mbits/sec is superior to this, or 100Mbits/sec DVCPRO-HD or AVC-Intra

The 700 is actually used to film peak-time UK dramas and History Channel documentaries, but yes it is used for news gathering also.
This model uses a progressive CCD.
