Watching whales off the coast of Kaikoura. You're seeing a humpback mother and calf flanked by dusky dolphins and fur seal.

  • where in nz is this?

  • Kaikoura, off the east coast of the South Island.

  • whats all the banging?

  • The banging is the crew of the boat hitting the sides of the ship. Since these humpbacks are migratory, they are very curious about boats coming near them. You can see the calf break the water to take a closer look.
