Hungarian is a linguist's dream. Yes, it is extremely complicated for an English speaker with sounds we don't have, 2 forms of verbs, irregularities up the ying-yang, 19 cases & multiple meanings of words, but is utterly fascinating. Magyars can read 15th cent Hungarian. I can't read any English that old. Ancient & virtually unchanged in form it's quite unique. It shares little with the Finno group, and the other 2 Ugric tongues have nearly died out. Nagyon szeretem a magyart. Jó tanulást!

I followed the entire Stella course when it was in the 'demo' stage and free. Though an excellent course, especially for pronunciation practice, it is primarily for the traveler. In short, it's a great way to get off the ground in the study of Hungarian. Hungarian is a beautifully soft language with a rich vocalic system, a fascinating tho extremely complicated language. Magyar cuisine & wines are superb, great music too, pop & folk. Budapest is THE party town in eastern Europe. Jó tanulást!

Its very intresting, that my language use not the original hungarian alphabet. We had our own writing in the early middle age,its name is "rovásírás".The rovásírás had a lot more original sound and letter. We brought it from central Asia. But since we left our old religion,we use this latin alphabetic system(aábccsddzdzseéf...)

I have discovered that since I speak Dutch, the pronunciation of the Hungarian alphabet comes quite naturaly to me.

This is some serious WTF?!

Állítólag régen úgy ejtették, hogy képesek voltak érzékeltetni a különbséget...

Thanks. But khm khm, Hungary is Central Europe as Europe is from the Ural mountins to the Atlantic ocean and the Carpathian Basin is in the middle of Europe.

Here is the hungarian alphabet:
a á b c cs d dz dzs e é f g gy h i í j k l ly m n ny o ó ö ő p q r s sz t ty u ú ü ű v w x y z zs.
-
Have you notices that the j and ly is the same?
But, you have to learn it if you want to write it correctly.
This is what lot of hungarians do not know.hajó(boat), but if someone is stupid he writes it halyó. Thats not easy :S
hungarian has lots of words from other languages??? i would say it's one of the most original modern european languages on the whole (together with czech)...
sorry, but there is everything explained like for total morons in this course!

Wrong. It is not "original" - it is one of the oldest European languages. That was stated in Part 1. Of course, it has borrowed words from Germanic, Turkic and Slavic languages (Not to the same extent that English has been influenced by other languages). In spite of that, Hungarians don't use 'okay' even though it's the most used word in the world.
There is a claim that 'hello' was originally a Hungarian word.

Also. the course is obviously for beginners. It was written by a Hungarian linguistics and language expert who has taught at university level!
