Whales!

Listening to humpback whale song during shore dives at Old Airport and Puako on the Big Island of Hawaii. We also heard whales at several of our other dive sites, and they sounded different every time, but these were our best recordings. The first clip, with the underwater scene and "spooky" song, is from Old A; the second, me resting in the "grassy knoll," is from our first Puako dive; and all the rest are from our third Puako dive, on March 20th. The whales were incredibly loud on the third dive, definitely the loudest we've ever heard them. Humpback whales winter (and breed) in Hawaii, then migrate to Alaska for the summer. Winter is whale-watching season in Hawaii; for us, it's whale-*listening* season. The sounds they make are bizarre!
