  • Just curious, because I think too much sometimes...Why would you have the flap section down and then elevon deflect up, during take off etc, when I would think the flaps and elevons in opposing directions would simply create lots of drag working against each other? OR is that the flaps are toward center and more forward, perhaps of the center of lift, giving the same effect as the elevons which are more rearward of the CoL?

  • On the Swift the inboard flap produces a nose-up moment when deflected downward. No elevon deflection is needed to trim with the flaps deployed. The name Swift is actually an acronym:

SWIFT = Swept Wing with Inboard Flap for Trim

  • @smorrismlbco Steve or Brian, How about the elevon deflection for take off? (im triyng to build something like the swift and right now i have to set those kind of things) Thank you !

  • @BledaTheHun

It depends on your CG position and all of the exact details of how your wing is built, especially the landing gear location. The E-Swift can lift off with zero deflection if you build up enough speed in the take-off run.

  • sweet! Flaps down the whole flight?

  • 15 degree flap for most of the flight, 35-50 degree flap for landing.

  • So a range of about 90 Kilometers?

    (1.4 hours at 35 kts)

  • interresting solution based on a swift light wing, but i think the efficiency "all in open air" is very bad with so much drag in comparison of the Swift light PAS with complete fairing...

Electric? what's the advantage in comparision with the actual Bailey 4 stroke engine from the stock PAS version? consumption 2 liter for 1 hour at 90km/h= 4 hour motor with one tank (8 litre), a hight luxury for a motor glider...

  • @smorrismlbco Aha. So I think my vague theoryabout the effect of the flaps is somewhat correct, that they are located in a such a way that they produce the same effect as the elevons control wise. It makes sense now. :) Thanks. Very cool. Who'd think someone would actually fly up with lipos in a real craft (what with all the scary stores people love to tell about their r/c). Been using lipos in r/c myself, never thought someone would use them in a 1:1 vehicle!

  • @Berkner80 there was an ultralight airfield in denton at one time but it has been yrs since I have been there

  • @smorrismlbco Yeap, my cg is already located and stuff, but it`s getting hard to understand why the swift would need such a large elevons. By the way, GREAT work ! should be beautiful to fly the E-Swift without the noise of a combustion engine!.
