Like other crimes that took place in the South during the civil rights era, the Till murder case has been repackaged to fit the standard narrative of civil rights tourism. This presentation reexamines the case, exploring the role of the prosecution in maintaining Mississippi's brand of white supremacy.

@billyripp Thanks for posting this, alerting me to the story of neglect of the Till casket. A bit ironic that with all the archives, museums, and foundations - i.e., MONEY - dedicated to the history of the US civil rights movement, no one bothered to keep an eye on the Till casket. Perhaps, as usual, the concern of institutions is not the well-being of people, but the well-being of the institutions.

There's no common definition of "black man" but what the court gave us : the "one-drop" rule (that makes Obama a "black" president). Courts stemmed the rising tide of colorless by checking miscegenation, and thus maintained the divisions that make it possible today to still be talking of a mythical "American black man": invented by the US legal system. The worst prison of America is in our minds.
