1965 Ampeg Reverberocket. Straight in from 1987 Fender American Standard Stratocaster. Volume 30% on amp, echo, speed and intensity set 60-70%. Seems like a bit of early break-up for an Ampeg Reverberocket with single coils. Please excuse the camera mic and the sloppy playing. Started with no effects, added amp's "echo" and "vibrato".

  • The reverb sounds a little shorter in duration that other clips I have seen. Any changes to the tube or reverb at all?

  • @BOULDERDP No, no changes. The reverb is set about 7/10 in this vid, so it had more to give for sure. At higher settings is does last longer. also, the cheap camera mic doesn't really do this amp justice.

  • I have one of these it buzzes so loud though. wish I knew about how to fix it and whatnot

  • @lesterhalfjr Take it to a local tech. It shouldn't be too expensive or hard to fix.

  • What speakers have you tried?

Also what is your tube configuration?

  • Put a weber F150 in there with great results. Kept enough of the original break-up sound, much louder and a more full tone.

It has a mullard and a telefunken 12ax7, and bogen branded sylvania made 7868's. The 6u10 and 6bk11 are ampeg originals.

The amp is stock other than the speaker replacement and 3 prong cord.

  • I bought the reissue Reverberocket. It's a 50- watt 2x12 combo with a beautiful clean tone. It almost soinds like a cross between a Fender and a Vox.

  • @ThemanfromZambodia

I'm also having a blast with my Gemini I, but both are very special with their own voice.

  • I have owned my 1965 Ampeg for 15 years and it also has the 7868s with Original Alnico Jensen. I recently had Tom Mitchell recap it and it is now my best sounding amp but its a close call to my 1965 Gemini with a CTS 15 speaker. Fenders are great but these amps are absolutely wonderful with a unique vibe.

  • Mine has 7868's too.

I think that's a big part of the extra magic.

Mine will start to break up with heavier attack from about 4.5 on, but retains remarkable clean if you back off on your attack.

I keep the reverb at around 3 in most of my clips.

The fun zone gets cooking with the Volume at about 6.5 and the Tone at about 7.5

Capo your strat at the 4th fret and see how you like those tones too. :-)
