Here at the Hegang mine in Heilongjiang Province, more than a hundred miners died in an underground explosion over the weekend.

No explanation has been provided for the cause of the explosion so the wives of deceased miners came to find out for themselves. But they were met by police and security guards.

[Widow, Protester]:
"None of the officials have died! All of the dead are the workers! Not one of those officials has died! The officials are all alive! The workers are all dead! Not one of those officials has even been down into that mine!"

The women say they havent been able to contact officials.

[Widow, Protester]:
"Several days? Several days? Why have their mobile phones been off for several days? Huh? What's the reason behind it? Why haven't they given us answers? When will they respond to us and tell us what happened?"

The ordeal hasnt been easy for them at all.

[Widow, Protester]:
"We're always waiting. This morning I got up so early and I can't sleep a wink anyway. Us family members can only sit around and wait. The children are crying and we don't even know who we can ask! We want to know who to ask! And we can't find a single person."

In the first half of this year more than 1,100 people have died in officially recorded coalmine accidents across China.

  • The communist 'peoples' party leadership gives the Chinese people nothing but suffering... in this instance by not enforcing their already lax mining safety regulations. THOUSANDS of miners die every year in China. It's funny that they're so focused on smiting dissidents and the religious, instead of rising birth-defect rates and worker safety issues.

  • i once had a chinese security guard put his hand over my camera lense, he didnt realise the guys i was working for were running a private investigation firm and mostly made up of ex-chinese-special-forces members. he got jumped by three guys who threatened to break his hand. it felt so good to be a cameraman that day.

  • Is it really mining activities or something else? I heard from coast ot coast radio from a guy who was previously working for montauk project and he claimed that the Chinese government is drilling deep underground to kill alien beings living in the hollow. Its not something new...former CIA and KGB members stepped forward and claimed similar stories in their respective countries. Former government engineers also claimed the same story and got killed. Strange....

  • thank god. too many chinks anyway. but on the other hand there are less ppl to make me cheap shit.

  • Who's benefiting? Did those run out of money to pay the workers, and decided to bury them instead of paying them? Look at where the money is flowing, and things should become clear pretty fast.

  • irresponsible leaders and boss...

  • Damn some people are just so unlucky, hopefully the Chinese gov. will at least give them an apology

  • this new ancor is cute

  • Coal mining is a dangerous job. As the saying goes,

"You gotta do, what you gotta do, to make a living, and survive."

Even if the penalty is an untimely death
