Soldering Iron Driver (SID) test #2
Project home page: http://elco.crsndoo.com/wordpress/201...
Project log: http://dangerousprototypes.com/forum/...

SID is capable of driving any soldering iron with RTD or ThermoCouple sensor. In this video I'm testing the HAKKO soldering iron while there is external thermometer showing temp from the TC embedded in the tip.

great demo. I've been having trouble soldering heat sinks to ground planes due to these temp issues. Have you tried or heard of a "quick 203H" they are the only company i've seen (so far) to boast about the sensor being right near the tip. I may give them a try.

QUICK is cloning HAKKO for decades, they make good soldering irons but the sensor is not that good (I have QUICK system). If you want perfect tip temp control, use weller magnastat, it requires to change a tip to get a different temperature but the temperature control is the best on the market. Weller PES51 is also a cheap soldering iron with a great sensor, they have a hole in the tips and the thermocouple sensor goes deep inside the tip hence the tip temperature control is avesome..
