For me the last fugue evokes departure from the material world after death and gradually entering the sphere of the hereafter.

Yes, 14 is marvelous. And Bach, bless him, as with so much else he wrote, left it within the capability of amateurs prepared to take the many months necessary to learn it. I hav'nt yet begun, but I look forward.

In my opinion the best version (complete) of the Art of the fugue is by Evgeny Koroliov. Ligeti said about this recording that he would take it on a desert island if he were allowed only one record.

oh that's nothing. The combination of all 4 subjects (art of fugue, cp14 1st, cp14 second, BACH) sounds glorious. What a shame he left it unfinished.
