If you can master classical skill and technique, you can literally sing ANYTHING!!! Training a voice for classical singing is like training an athlete. Most people don't realize just how phyically demanding proper singing is. The whole body is your instrument.

Sounds like Villazón doesn't have a suitable voice for such devices.
That enlightens us 'bout two MAJOR things: first, we have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE of how people like Caruso or Tamagno really sounded like, which is sad; second, singers like Villazón himself get A LOT of their singing quality only from the recording (or, for some, from mics in opera houses).
I know that's nothing new, but it hadn't hit me so hard as it did when I listened to the work of this old recording device.

@GermanOperaSinger Now we know why the singers of the past always sang better! :)

It's amazing how primative the recorded sound was in Caruso's time, yet Caruso made recordings that were of exceptional quality. His voice was PERFECT for the phonograph! That's why I love his recordings. He set the standard for all tenors for generations after him, starting with Gigli, and now with Villazon and Florez. :)
"parts of the video have caruso so some countries can't see" ? why?! lol
