The tuning is DAEAAE. I used a capo so I wouldn't have to tune so high and bust a string.

  • dude, where do you get your tabs from?

  • @googoorockfan I don't use tabs. I play by ear and just figure stuff out the best I can by listening and watching live videos. Thanks.

  • twice that ive tried to play this song i broke the G string....its so annoying...any suggestions?

  • you can use a .016 G string from an electrig guitar set. that shouldn't break.

  • For those who are looking - this is the BEST and Correct way to play this song. Thanks!! Careful tuning though you might bust a string like I did!

  • thanks! yeah, those darn johnny rzeznik tunings! gotta be careful.

Actually, I've come to realize that Johnny rarely ever tunes his own guitar that he plays at live performances. Someone else does it for him. I've downloaded nearly all of his live performances, and played them back at 8x slow speed, and have verified that it is both DAEAEE and DAEAAE.

His original tuning might have been DAEAEE, but his guitar is often tuned in DAEAAE, depending on the arrangement being played that night. It sounds virtually identical otherwise.

  • @133j0hn See . . . this is what annoys me about all these youtube vids. The correct tuning IS DAEAEE. It's the ringing of the E strings that gives it such a beautiful sound. That's what John ALWAYS does, set up ringing strings. Everyone on youtube wants to plaster it with ringing As. The guy in the vid does a GREAT rendition, but it still isn't the perfect tuning for the song.

  • this was prob the best version i have heard. Great Job!

  • Freaking awesome...

This is the most accurate rendition of "Name" that I've heard anyone play. I've been searching for the correct tuning for hours. I kept on finding DADAAE and DAEAEE tunings, and I knew they weren't right. Gladly I found your video. Great job!

  • just broke my string : /

  • the correct tuning D A E A E E...replace the B string using a E so the string doesn't break or damage ur guitar neck....

  • @DaveDragon10 it's a Guild D55. I think 2007. I just used a pentax s5z little digital camera to record it. thanks.

  • Your guitar sounds amazing, what kind is it? You using anything special for the sound recording?
