Flying the Sabreliner

ILS to landing in the Sabreliner.
This was our first attempt. We were going to make another, but changed jobs instead.

This one is a pretty boring, to be honest. But hey, someone is bound to enjoy it.

We really had to honk on the reverse b/c we were landing at max gross. Other than that, it's a typical ILS to landing on a hazy day.

You can't hear what we are saying except a very few things. The F.O. is funny.

Hey, was it just me, or did anyone else notice an "off flag" in the F.O.'s ADI? (lower right corner).

It's been a good long time since I flew that bird, but I think what you're seeing there is a LOC and SLOPE flag. The FO probably didn't have the ILS in the box and selected in the correct mode. It's not inop, I'm sure of that. I think it's some kind of nav flag.

She is referring to some part of the cleanup checklist that was unclear. I don't know anymore which part it was b/c I have moved on and don't fly that bird anymore, but that is what she is talking about.

Looks like a 65 model, which is one of the best airplanes for the buck right now. The little girl in the right seat doesnt now what she is talking about.

It's a 65. The nicest airplane I have ever flown. The FO is just bitching about the checklist I just made. She's pretty green and we were just working out the bugs. She's not really bitching.

I was replying to the ever-present, often with annoying timing, PNE controllers. I mastered a floating hand technique to man the PTT while that yoke was flitting about everywhere. :)

LOL, it was a new checklist that we were still tweaking. There was one line that really seemed like it was talking about something else similarly named, but with a completely different function. The exact item escapes me these days, it's been almost 3 years already! Anyway, breastadvocate was right. I was griping about the checklist.

The Sabreliner is actually quite the interesting airplane. My uncle owned and operated his own 65 in the early 90's or so and a little known fact is that the Sabreliner was designed to land on water from the getgo when the gov. requested the design.

Youre right, My grandpa was a Lt. Colonel in the USAF and he said that he secretly flew this airplane at night and against USAF regulation because he consistently flew over his allowed flight time, but he was the only pilot who could do it, and this was around the end of his 30 yr service.

He always said how his plane was basically general westmoreland's taxi, that he dealt with him regularly, and how they would be always moving shady communications around, He loved flying this airplane!
