A scene from Deadwood 3x07 "Unauthorized Cinnamon" -- A rare moment of vulnerability from George Hearst, that great "murderous engine."

  • It takes a special kind of crazy to make Swearebgen seem fair and balanced. Eat shit and die Hearst.

  • This guy is a sociopathic weirdo. He cries out of sheer frustration that he hasn't yet been able to wreck the entire town.

  • @charlatanfilms Well put!

  • I almost expect Hearst to then say, "...Gold. Always believe in your soul..you've got the POWER to know you're INDESTRUCTIBLE...always believe it!".

  • Hearst is like me when I'm playing Minecraft.

  • This was a man with real power, not like asshole modern bankers or the like

  • as much as i hate hearst, he's a fascinating character sometimes

  • @charlatanfilms But Odell died, do you know how? I always assumed it was because of Hearst.

  • interesting to see the most evil character in the show have this vulnerability, actually come to think of it cy and w had their weak spots too.

  • This is the organizing principle behind the entire story arc of the show. That people agree that gold (or anything else) has a value allows for the creation of a civilization. It carves a town out of the wilderness, creates society's rules and even allows Hearst to refrain from killing Odell.
