Yes - those women did sterling service. I believe some were from US but got fed up with the discrimination and moved back to US to do the job there instead.

@wordsmith52 Amelia Earhart too! Mum used to sing the song "Amy wonderful Amy", by Horatio Nicholls when I was little. A lot of those delivery pilots lost their lives, watched an interview with one a few weeks ago. She flew the big Wellingtons!

@applesweeter Yes - it should be interesting to see what this film might be called if a remake was ever done in these more "enlightened" times - and there would be no Benny Hill of course. Apart from other famous fliers such as Amy Johnson, we now know of course of the often dangerous and daring exploits of the women who flew WW2 war planes on trade plates (delivery) as it were and the frightful discrimination they suffered in the male dominated flying service.

to answer:
(1) the lyrics would not work with the musical soundtrack.
(2) it means that a woman has the ability to piss off a male driver in the air as well as on the road.
(3) i dont know about values, but last time i flew with a female pilot the only thing that was brought up was my lunch. i sincerely hope your inquiries have been answered fully. as for advancing feminist cause, refer to vivian vance and natalie wood in "the great race".

About question, if you think that the a "Those Magnificent Ladies in Their Flying Machines" is not appropriate to the poltline, what will be the most appropriate in you opinion?
applesweeter 2 years ago
My answers;
1) It would be inappropriate in view of the plotline.
2) To females it means advancing their "feminist" cause while getting the hated males to pay for them (in Earhart's case it was G P Putnam and sundry sponsors; Amy Johnson's DH Moth was purchased for her by her father; Sheila Scott had a male admirer who largely paid her bills).
3) Female pilots have proved they can wrap males round their little fingers and persuade them to pick up the tab.
Cynical? Yep. Factual? Yep.
