  • Sam's Outdoorsman is sponsoring TROUTFEST on October 1-2, 2011 at Big Bear Marina.Organizer- WON Magazine. Register online with them and Get your gears ready and be there for fun weekend!!!!!

  • Do you really need to fish 2 rods? In Oregon you'd be arrested and have your gear confiscated. Bring a kid with you next time.

  • @MarkoAbo I always use 2 rods anywhere i go. As far as legality- in CA when you buy the license, you can have the second rod added for a small fee. It's absolutely legal. I think you should move to CA :)

  • Nice fish!

I'm from orange county and I usually hit up bishop, mammoth, silverwood lake (more recently) trabuco and azusa canyon, but I never had the chance to fish in big bear. I guess because I prefer stream/river fishing over lakes.

What section of big bear lake is good through different parts of the season/time of day. Usually the reports say that people on boats trolling spinners or streamer flies work, but you seem to know the lake pretty well. Any hints before I venture up there?

  • @danielkang83

When you get to the construction site (right before entering Big Bear) make a left from the bridge (North Shore) . Go about a mile, and it's all good there for shore fishing! You can get a rental boat and trolling streamer flies should produce results.

From shore- i prefer floating bait . With nightcrawlers you open up your chances for all species, but i like trout and so floating bait usually does it pretty well.

Any advise for close by streams? I like flying Kern but 2 far

  • nice trout

  • @MarkoAbo

even with a double rod addon to your license? if that exists in oregon...

  • just recently took a trip and caught 8 fish in a half day

  • my uncles house is right behind you

  • @komitas23 I love fly fishing but there isn't too much you can do around here. We don't have large open rivers like Kern.

Silverwood Lake is one place I can recommend (once the water levels rise up again. One of the lake pumps were struck by lightning several weeks ago so the water level is really low right now). If you go towards the end of the lake it turns into a pretty slow moving river. You can see trout feeding on the surface at times, but I usually use powerbait there.

  • @smuggeler The only lakes you don't need licenses on are usually the privately owned lakes.

ie. Santa Ana River Lakes. You will need a license @ BBL
