Battlefield Earth was a piece of crap that deserved its Razzies.

@ritter89 The common age range for onset is more like 16 - 30. And it is treatable, it's just not curable. Difficult to keep schizophrenics ON treatment though.

I'm certainly not condoning all drug, or drug methods, but if there were no illnesses that required control by pharmaceuticals, than why were they studied & invented?! That is just preposterous...this person certainly deserved to be looked at by a specialist!!!! How very sad. ...and it is especially disturbing to me that a science fiction writer has so much unadulterated power!

I hate to say it, but common sense tells me, Jeremy was (at least partially) a product of a cult mentality (ie: Scientology). Whether or not he had a combination of mental illnesses plaguing him, being brought up in that atmosphere, (ie"nature vs. nurture) In my opinion, played a big role in his mentality!

Wow, the guy was experiencing so much hallucinations and all...it's a sad thing that they never got him proper help to begin with! How frustrated must he have felt when his parents didn't believe he was sick...and didn't get him help cuz it was "against their religion"!! Morons!!
-
jeremy needed the pychiatric drugs....so he wouldn't have killed his mom....well, too late i don't care if it's against your religion or does not cure you....if it prevents you from doing crazy shit...then, take the drugs
scientology is against psychology because they dont want their followers to be educated more about the science of the mind, human behavour, etc., because if they did, theyd know scientology is a bunch of bullshit.

Oh bullocks, schizophrenia and schizo-affective disorders have been reported since the beginning of recorded history. All schizophrenics suffer from a very specific set of symptoms (paranoia, psychosis, etc) that manifest at predictable ages (between 18-24). Hardly any cases of schizophrenia manifest after 30 and it's largely a latent genetic illness. The fact that we cannot treat it (just as we can't treat dozens of cancers) does not diminish the reality of the illness.
