Song about Bobby Sands (IRA) sung by Christy Moore. Sands died on Hungertrike in 1981 for his rights as a political prisoner and for Irish Freedom from British occupation. Despite the song describing Bobby as an MP, Bobby Sands refused to recognise the British parliament therefore was not a member (MP). Like all Republicans loyal to the All Ireland Republic, Sands should be described as a Teachta Dála (TD) who was prepared to take his place in an 32 county Dáil Éireann.
A new movie called 'Hunger' has been made about Bobby in prison. It has already won several awards.
Lyrics
How many more must die now, how many must we lose
Before the island people their own destiny can choose?
From immortal Robert Emmet to Bobby Sands M.P
Who was given 30,000 votes while in captivity
No more he,ll hear the larks sweet notes upon the Ulster air
Or gaze upon the snowflake pure to calm his deep despair
Before he went on hungerstrike young Bobby did compose
The Rhythm of Time the Weeping Winds and the Sleeping Rose
He was a poet and a soldier, he died courageously
And we gave him 30,000 votes while in captivity.
Thomas Ashe gave everything in 1917
The lord mayor of Cork Mac Sweeney died his freedom to obtain
But never one of all our dead died more courageously
Than young Bobby Sands from Twinbrook, the people's own M.P
He was a poet and a soldier, he died courageously
And we gave him 30,000 votes while in captivity.

Died for nothing! Last six allowed to die by IRA after Brits had agreed to demands. Shameful!

Heroes! Murdered by the british establishment. A brit went on hungerstrike once, but they were serving chicken so he called it off. Enjoy Afghanistan mighty imperialists fall like sheep.

@MrTheAlabam Rubbish, 5 basic demands, that's all they asked, saying they were used to push an agenda is extremely insulting.

@AndrewTally2 these men were used as pawns by adams and co to further sinn feins agenda. would they support sinn fein stting in stormont administering british in Ireland, i think not, shame on sinn fein for the betrayal of these mens lives, if you listen to antony mcintyre you will hear what really went on during the hunger strikes

@MrTheAlabam I know, I think these 10 brave men should be saluted. I am just saying, as a result of the deaths, peace talks were made possible. They died for 5 basic demands in prison. God Bless Bobby Sands
