  • I just dont trust the royal mail and since leaving school, any postal services I have used have always been via recorded delivery, because I cannot trust these people to deliver even a simply letter. I personally think that either DHL, fed ex or even parcel force should split the Royal Mail between themselves. IT IS ALSO FULL OF DISHONEST AGENCY WORKERS. EDUCATED PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO WANT PART TIME JOBS AT THE COMPANY CANNOT GET IN BECAUSE THE INCOMPETANT STAFF AND MANAGERS WOULD BE EXPOSED.

  • The Royal mail should be privatised. They are a bunch of lying bastards who cannot even deliver a simple letter within 5 days. Sure I agree that privatisation does not always work, but with something serious like letter deliveries we need a tough, strong stance. These people should know that they are not just doing a jon, but are doing a public service. They cannot hold society hostage for their dogmatic views on the economy. I would be willing to pay more to get a letter delivered on time.

  • Why don't government give the PO to the unions. There you go, you think you can do better. All yours. You worry about pensions, payrolls, disciplinaries, manning... You negotiate delivery rates with your biggest customer: us. Thatcher shoulda done same thing with mines, give em to Scargill + see how long they'd last when power stations refused to buy their coal because it was 4 x cost of Polish coal. Watch him make the tough decisions on cost-cutting and efficiency. I give them about 1 year.

  • Dear overpaid, under-worked managers, treat your staff as well as you treat yourself, and they won't go on strike. You f***ing simple, greedy dunces.

  • @vivascargill You know he was a champagne socialist right? To him, those miners were pawns.

  • fuck these weirdos

  • Of course we can all talk a good game, the internet makes keyboard warriors out of all of us but I do put Scargill in a similar vein to Dereck Hatton, they made their point, they did very nicely out of it and they really couldn;t care less about those who got hurt.

Scargill is bright and a good orator but his politics are unrealistic and his members reallly suffered.

Was his life in danger? I very much doubt it unless he made a bad potato gag in a Belfast pub.

  • @intra fair enough but I (if Shemus Milne is right) he had a lot to lose --perhaps his life. I was (since I can't seem to get this through to u tube leftists) suggesting that it is one thing (as we are doing) typing comments and quite another being on the ground. We could argue politics but I think to no point . . You must have encountered folks of what ever stripe "who talk a good game" maybe in a university. I know people who think Arthur is right wing! (from behind a desk) make sense?

  • @vivascargill I can respect his viewpoint but of 'courage' no. He had nothing to lose in hte strike, his members lost everything so he could play politics and caress his own ego. That's not courage, that is the work of a coward.

I know miners are divided by him, those with a mind of thir own tend to reject him - that may be a little simplistic but I lived in a Miners' village and that's how I found views.

  • @Intro well let me put aside politics. I do defend Arthur we will not agree--what I meant was a bit more. One can be right or wrong but Arthur went out (and still goes out) and lives his beliefs. I honor that on left and right. Nothing vexes me more than you tube left wing "purists" who do nothing. In the US Robert Taft was such a man--on the far right. So I think that even his opponents should "respect" him. There is no point in digital polemics. I was praising courage.
