There are many misconceptions about whether or not it is necessary to varnish an acrylic painting. Liquitex resident artist Jimmy Leslie explains that as a general rule, you should always varnish your acrylic work when possible. Varnishes are applied over dry paint films and have several purposes. The first and most important function is to protect the painting surface from the environment and protect the pigments from ultraviolet light. Secondly, varnishes can be used to change or unify a paintings surface sheen. Liquitex varnishes come in several different sheens, which can all be intermixed for a customized sheen. Liquitex varnishes are either permanent or removable and can be applied to both flexible and rigid supports.

  • @HackerGuitarist - you can use any of of our Liquitex varnishes. They can be thinned with Liquitex Airbrush Medium if they are too think. Be sure to clean your airbrush well after use.

  • @xxomegaredxx The one I use is in the same bottle as the video(liquitex matte or gloss) but it has a black and yellow label... for acrylic paints . I don't have a need for the archival or soluvar type.

  • @HackerGuitarist Which one/type of varnish have you used with your airbrush? I have been using the Liquitex acrylic inks, they are awesome.
