@GrangerGlass...I beg to differ. On a single fuel torch, say, a beginners hothead or such, using only propane, no additional oxy, coated glasses aren't a necessity.
A torch such at this, using either Propane or Mapp & tanked or processed oxy (not the two fuel lines?) the flare is much more damaging. You may not notice it now, but you may very well be sorry 20 years from now. Not to mention, the danger of shocky glass flying in your eyes. Is your vision worth it? Just a thought.

yeah I think after about 15 minutes of staring at glasssurfer's torch my retina's were feeling it!
Goggles are the shit for sure.
you don't really have to wear glasses when flame working. The orange sodium flare does not damage your eyes. But if you get colored boro very hot the glass will get bright enough to hurt your eyes.
