PLEASE WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY - - - This was our February paintout of the First Coast Plein Air Painters (2-28-09) at Stinson Park (also known as Lakeside Park) on the Ortega River in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a beautiful park with views of the Grand Boulevard Bridge, moored sailboats, a marina and the city skyline. My painting includes the bridge which was built in 1927... for more on this area visit :

My painting is another 6-color (White, yellow, yellow ochre, crimson, prussian blue, paynes grey) done on gessoed masonite hardboard, leaving a 2" border for the simulated linen border (my next video). It was a VERY windy day with gusts around 45 knots, which blew EVERYONE's work off their easels (including mine). Got paint all over my hands today!! It's not a big problem with my acrylics, but some of the oils added a lot of natural elements... sand... grass etc. The folks using the park were very complimentary to all of us.

Thanks for watching!

  • Nice painting Gary...did the wind really take your painting? I noticed it was windy!

  • Hi... and YES, but mine was dry enough being acrylic .. we all had our work blown away, one young lady's was blown off three times, but she's a great sport.... said "it adds character!" That is the windiest I have yet painted, but it was fun. It was a challenge keeping the acrylics wet... lotsa use of the spray bottle & had to refill it several times. Thanks for watching!

  • AND...they should have you do a program on PBS...the new bob ross!!!!!!!!!! oh wow, that would be so cool!

  • Thanks... I consider that a real compliment.... but I have NEVER seen anyone (myself included) who could paint an 18x24 in 24 minutes with excellent composition, color and texture EVERY time! I still struggle to get one done under an hour or two....

and this one took longer as with the high winds, it like trying to paint on a moving bus driving down a hiking trail!! Thanks again for watching

  • yeah!great painting!

  • Wonderful demo! I do oil myself and admire anyone you can paint so fluidly in acrylic...tough stuff. And I HATE the wind when I am painting! You are truly made of strong stuff to not only be out there but also create such a beautiful piece. Great draftsmanship and excellent painterly quality!

  • Great stuff man, I just recently started learning to paint with acrylics, I'm using Studio 7 paints as I can't afford Luiq. quite yet. Lot of fun painting.

  • Beautiful, my friend! :]

  • I like this park also... it's my thiord painting there, two on my own and one with the First Coast Plein Air Painters. Thanks for watching

  • Thanks! It was QUITE windy!! thanks for watching!

  • Thanks Retta... actually the wind DID blow me down also... even with tent stakes and bungie cords tying it down, but since it wasc acrylics, no harm done!!

Actually I have two DVDs made so my mom can see them (she doesn't want a computer).. theres about 10 videos on each dvd. i think you have my email address to let me know where to send them. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
