Tool is a band comprised of true artistic geniuses; in an auditory and visual sense. A lot of people describe feeling a sense of higher being when they listen to their music. That is because if you have an ear for it, you hear and intuitively understand the mood they are trying to get across with thier songs. 

Tool will blow your mind; only if you are open to it. "pretentiousness" is irrelevant, and everyone that "gets" Tool will agree with me to an extent...

tool did access to a higher conciousness , and one of the things that ive learned from their music is to take the message for me, share it whit the people that i belive might be interested and alowd the rest to belive and think what ever they want ....you should be worry about what you do with your existence is their problem if they want to be pretentious...we are all in this world just learning, some learn faster,.and leave the hate and hostility behind.

Like all Tool songs the meaning is always something different or other than what you may think for example Jambi was the name of the genie in peewee herman show in that song he is referring to material possessions as what is evil not the dark side of what you may think he is talking about losing his spiritual center within him. It is not hard to search the net for different views on their but I know my info on four Degrees is correct look up the real meaning to stinkfist ? you'll be surprised

this song is about his freshman year at west-point in which the freshman class is called 4 degrees its about someone forcing their beliefs upon you in this case TOOL uses rape as an example of being forced to do or believe in something your against... the Calm beneath castles is direct reference to how west-point actually looks .... too all you ignorant fools you take this song about anal sex
