On Memorial Day Weekend the Southern Pacific 2472 ran in Niles Canyon, California. We filmed the photo run on the morning of May 23 . This locomotive is owned and maintained by the Golden Gate Railroad Museum. She was built in 1921 by Baldwin Locomotive Works and is one of the few Pacific 4-6-2s still running. If you enjoy this short video you will like the hour long DVD "THUNDER IN THE CANYON" produced for the museum. It tells the story of how this engine was saved and has some of the best run-by shots ever filmed of a steam engine. You will see what it's like to ride in the cab, see HD shots of cameras mounted on the boiler and see close up, the giant drivers slip on a oily curve. This is the one railroad DVD you can show to the entire family. To order Google GGRM. All the proceeds go to the museum. Please hit the HD button on the lower right side to watch in HD.

  • Just think back in 1992 she was on the mainlines and now its like she is downgraded to branch line service along with many other great steamers! Great Video and im glad to at least see this locomotive still running today!

  • I remember playing on 2472 when it was a beat up static display at the San Mateo Co. Fairgrounds!

  • Man, one the fineset SP locos ever!

  • Another fun video of #2472.....

  • So? I can say so too.

  • I was asking Don.

  • 330? Yes, she is beautiful, and very old. Needs better treatment than being left outside.

  • Which YVRR car? The RPO 107 or the observation 330? The 330 is the car the PLA needs to ask to use, the 107 can be used without asking because they own it. The 330 is only used on VERY special occasions.

  • Have you seen the Yosemite Valley car? Its Beautiful.
