there probably is no meaning to life and yes there is no scientific reason to be ethical nevertheless there is countless moral reasons.
Then you may ask "Well where does science meet morality? where does science prove that morality matters?" well there is an answer:
1. Evolution led to humans and led to human social evolution which led to morality. So in some sense morality is part of a higher level of evolution
2. If you want to be happy, do good and people will treat you good.
Simple as

Is it just me, or is the constant "uhhhmm" really annoying? I mean he has a lot of good points, but the Uhhhmm is really getting to me

Singer is truly one of the *great minds* of our generation. I giggle every time I see clips of Dawkins saying, "Yes... but most of us are not as ethical or moral as you..."
PRACTICAL ETHICS had an indelible impact on me upon reading it as a first year college student, although I don't remember all of the exact details of it.
Australia produces two of the world's greatest minds: Singer and Tao; both are truly exceptional individuals in their respective fields of pursuits....

@Extinctosaur Assuming that you can understand the definition of both words within the context of the sentence which was written, you should realize that propitiate is just as acceptable as propagate depending upon the meaning the author is attempting to convey.
An interesting talk by Peter Singer. He makes a lot of sense, and is an excellent speaker. I've added him to my list of prominent secular / atheist / humanist people.

I think religion is primative. I guess we need to start some where. But adults that still need this stuff is wierd to me. They really are to lazy or to stupid to think for themselves.
