My first Miss Stanwyck was on Big Valley, mainly the reruns although I was alive when first run. Just too young to remember much. But as I grew older, and discovered her movies she quickly became my favorite actress. Period. And to this day she's my favorite of all time. No movie actress before or since has really touched me - that combination of tough as nails and vulnerability is just too perfect.

What a Swell Dame! Tough as nails with a 24k heart. That face she makes just before "Take it off the E String"-what a sneer, just says it all. Garbo was never as good with an expression than that.

It took Garbo almost all of her active career to be able to "let her hair down". Stanwyck just came and did it! Yet, to be fair, although Barbara is one of my alltime faves, there are some Garbo parts she would have been helpless in- or Dietrich parts, for that matter. Still, a great, natural actress! And such a joy to meet more and more people who agree!

This is one of Barbara's best movies. She is very underrated.

I agree with you that Stanwyck is underrated. In my book, she's right up there with her "grande rivals" Hepburn, Davis and Crawford! Underrated or not, Stanwyck did have a career to be proud of!
