  • Its not a deffective issue. It's the different climate in the different climate regions that causes the foil to shring and expand.

  • @crazyRCplane yea.. I agree now. a little heat took the wrinkles right out.. Thanks for commenting.

  • hi great vid.. great channel...just started my build on the p-51 d from nitro planes.com so far so good...mine has some wrinkles in the monocote as well...thx for the tip....kev

  • @kevib41 no problem.. p-51's are my favorite warbird.. good luck with your build.. which engine are you going to use for it??

  • use a hot air gun, but be careful if you hold it in one spot to long will burn hole. Keep gun in motion. I used a iron on mine and turn the temp up to about 3/4 to full! Worked great for me.

  • @rlhjvh thanks for the post. I left my heat gun in one spot too long and it pulled it back a little too far.. ehh.. it was my first time.. no biggie.. This is become one of my favorite planes to fly.. great flying characteristics..

  • it was a defective thing every P-51 is like that and cannot be totally elimenated.

  • email them

  • i have one. a hot air gun will help but not totally fix it. chinese climate i suppose.

  • i just got a used in very good shape except for the covering whice i thought my hot ir gun would take right out but i couldnt get them all out. thinking about stripping it and trying my hand at a covering job

  • I use a hot air gun for it I have the same plane

  • hangar 9 staff get paid by the plane not by the hour so they just rush them out so its just normal that theyd be there :)

  • The servos you put in for the flaps are exactly the way the instuctions say to do it... I like my plane better with flaps... My Dad was taxi-ing and ran into my plane, so I bought a ARF and put everything inside... The new landing gear is brilliant... It has much softer landings

  • if you're not new to flying glow/glas, etc or anything that is made of balsa with covering it's completely normal. i use a hangar 9 sealing iron or you can use a heat gun

  • use an iron i do put it on low settings works for me, i use a clothes iron

  • yeah i just iron my self, but i need a heat gun now, because im about to build my first ,, rc plane kit,,So i believe the gun will come in very handy as well as the iron in some situtations

  • Simple heat will fix, not a defect. My P51 looked the same, heat gun!

  • @hairlesshippy I went with the S -52 a ASP my kit came with no flaps I thought when I got more exp. flyin I would set it up as a mod to the plane....I liked how yours went doin the mod on your plane good ideas. thx

  • just be careful not to overheat or over shrink the material other wise you could end up warping the surfaces and wing panels. Me personally I would use an iron at a low setting.

  • I have the same rig. I had a considerable number of wrinkles but not quite as many as yours. Heat gun specifically designed for covering worked well - it's a slow process though (took me about 45 minutes to do the whole plane). I went too fast (actually too slow) on one wing and shrank the edge of the covering on one of the stripes. On the sheeted parts (fuselage especially), used a variable temp covering iron with a sock. But before I did any work on the Ultracote, I read up on it. I also made

  • Great. look at my gas airplane vid.

  • hot air gun would take those right out i had that problem with mine now there isn't one buble on it thanks to a hot air gun

  • Hi! See my vid. Thx

  • Hi there.. I have not removed the droops and still have the stock motor. I put an 11X7 on that stock motor and seems to really hum for me.. not sure I want to upgrade.. I did however get a heat gun and iron and after applying the heat, most of the bubbles and wrinkles went away!! I have to ask.. Is there really a MAJOR increase in performance after installing the .55AX? I just can't validate upgrading the engine.. Would rather use the money on something else. Thanks for posting!!

  • Great plane, have the same with a few simple mods. Have you upgraded your engne yet. Mine is flying with an OS .55AX with a two blade 11 x 7 prop. Now it flies even better.
