9 year old Singaporean Whiz Kid create popular iphone application

And in Singapore, a nine-year-old programmer has made news with the writing of an iPhone application that has been downloaded over 150,000 times. Let's find out more.


STORY:
This nine-year-old is almost like any other kid living in Singapore - he goes to school, does his homework and plays on the computer.

The only difference is that Lim Ding Wen is probably the youngest programmer in the island city and perhaps, the world.

[Lim Ding Wen, Child Programmer]:
"I don't think it's difficult, except those long long long syntax."

Lim became a celebrity of sorts after writing an iPhone application called "Doodle Kids,” a program that allows users to draw with their fingers on the screen and then shaking the phone to clear their work.

He had his younger sisters in mind when he came up with this very simple painting program for kids.

Lim's father Lim Thye Chean said his son grew up surrounded by computers.

Lim has mastered some six programming languages and completed more than 20 projects.

[Thye Chean, Lim's Father]:
"For the things he does, basically he thinks what he wants to do, we just give him ideas. We don't basically guide him what to do, basically we'll give him some examples. Either my own examples, or some games he likes to play and let him come up with his own designs.”

When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he only has one thing in mind.

[Lim Ding Wen, Child Programmer]:
"A programmer, because I just want to be a programmer."
