Using Miami as its backdrop -- a true melting pot and anomaly of a city that represents a shift in American culture, "Miami Life" focuses on The Gillis family. The family is headed by Robert, a recently laid-off investment banker -- sarcastic, defeated, yet strangely optimistic about the future. Robert's wife is Jules, a beautiful and ambitious freelance party planner and former rock groupie who inadvertently releases details about her wild past during casual conversations. She fiercely attempts (and usually fails) to conceal the stories of her groupie years from her two teenage children. The teens have different fathers, both of whom were supposedly in famous bands, but whose identities are kept secret. JJ, the younger teenage daughter, is attractive but highly insecure and constantly battles with serious identity issues. Dylan, her older brother, is a wannabe ladies man / athlete who makes up for his inadequacies with a quick with and humor. Neither JJ nor Dylan knows who their respective fathers are, which only spurs both of the teens' delusional tendencies.
