@thejoesorensen Thank you for your posts. particularly this: "Maybe we should focus less on telling someone that they are a wretch going to hell and instead just love them." This was Jesus' preferred method of sharing the Gospel. He shared it with his words and his life. And if you would like to dialogue about why you don't believe the OT, I'd love to share some of the things that brought me from being a committed atheist to become a follower of Christ. Feel free to email me: alanoberg13@gmail
@TheTruthCanHurt ...never heard it before. I guess I know that when I was a Christian I still sinned all the time. (I'd challenge you to find a Christian that doesn't sin. Are they at war with God?) I guess it just seemed to me that I sinned but I knew that I'd asked Jesus for forgiveness, that when I got to heaven God would list my sins and Jesus would say, "It's ok. He accepted my offer to nullify those." But maybe I'm wrong and real Christians are perfect. After all, I'm not one anymore.)
@TheTruthCanHurt ...(*realize that) people as "heretics" right and left maybe we should instead love each other as much as we love ourselves (and as we believe God loves us). Maybe we should focus less on telling someone that they are wretch going to hell and instead just love them. I was always taught that God works through people; saving isn't our job: it's Jesus'. But that's just what I was taught. (As an aside, I find the "sinners are at war with God" statement interesting because I've...
@TheTruthCanHurt ...(*too complicated), but that wasn't why I "left" Christianity; I didn't believe the Old Testament. (But that's not my point.) My point is that I'd never witnessed the "hostility" spoken of. I can now say that, thanks to this discussion, I have. I realized that me pointing this out is as bad as me judging you, but hey, I'm a moral-less non-Christian, so I can't do any worse, right? (A little sarcasm never hurts.) I guess it just seems to me that instead of labeling people...
@TheTruthCanHurt (and everyone else in this discussion): I know that I haven't been a part of this discussion (argument, debate, whatever you would like to call it) and so it's not really my place to say anything, but I guess I feel like adding my two cents: I was a Christian. Then I was a deist. Than an agnostic, then an atheist, and now I'm not really sure what. I'd always heard about people staying away from Christianity because it seemed to complicated/the Christians seemed too hostile...
sinners are at war with God....but God is not at war with them. Jesus was a friend to sinners...sin is defeated by Jesus and he invites us to let him wash it from us.
Maybe because it isn't there. In videos like this, it is clear that he believes you've got to come to a realization that Christ is the only way and he is pushing us to higher standards. Did you see that when you saw this movie? Not Velvet Elvis, but this specific movie?
This sounds like wishful thinking, friend, because he says, "God has already made peace with ALL things." That's funny, because sinners are at war with God! I don't know how you aren't seeing Bell's universalism! Besides, there are two conditions put on true biblical conversion, resulting in salvation: Repentance and Faith (Acts 20:21).
"Yea, hath God said?"
That's Rob Bell in a nutshell. Don't be fooled people. This guy is batting for the other side.
