Child marriage robs 10 million girls a year of their childhood. A harmful traditional practice, child marriage denies girls their rights to health, education and security.

'Great change can happen within a single generation. I know this to be true.' - Desmond Tutu

In this new video from Girls Not Brides¸Graça Machel, Mary Robinson and Desmond Tutu of The Elders call on people around the world to action: to end child marriage in a single generation.

  • Sad. There is so much that is wrong in the world. Those of us who can must each do something to help those who cannot.

  • selling girls anywhere in the world the idea that their role in life is to be a mother and a wife handicaps them. movies sell fairytale happily ever after scenarios that keep women living in domestic abuse situations, still hoping that their frog will become a prince charming one day. this expected and in some parts of the world forced role stifles women, preventing them from finding out who they are, what they can do and who they can become.

  • THE RACES DONT MIX---THE FINAL SOLUTION

  • INDIANS AND ARABS ARE NOT HUMAN BEINGS AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN CIVILIZATION. CURSE THE JEWS WHO USE THEM TO DESTROY THE WHITE RACE. CLOSE THE DOORS SND SHIP THEM BACK OR KILL THEM

  • @peacerebelgirl so true.....i think u r a westerner thats why its very easy for u to think this. But its not so easy to adopt in the developing world coz it was only the individualism in west which made this change happen .and so we can say development can automatically change all this ideas

  • Une bien belle vidéo qui me touche énormément

  • @FabulousCatgirl Fair enough, the nice thing about tradition is, they can change as the title of this video says. Lets just hope that this and many other bad traditions that exist do change for the better.

  • @Solarinas Yes I got what you mean. I was just elaborating on and sharing what I think about “tradition”.

  • @FabulousCatgirl I am not sure if you understood the meaning of what I was saying. In essence I was mentioning the historical stand point on this and as we all should know, as time goes on values and practices change and if people do not change history repeats itself though I highly doubt with the way medical science advances that the average human lifespan will drop back down to 30-40 years. This issue with the child marriage does need to come to an end, these kids need to learn and grow.

  • @Solarinas talking abt tradition, the word tradition always carries a negative connotation for me anyway; i personally just find ppl everywhere enjoy using the word “tradition” to justify racism, sexism, homophobia, domestic abuse or even rape and murder. that’s just idiotic -- sth happened b4 does not mean it is right or should have ever happened. twisted logic.

  • I can understand how people think that this is a tradition because a time in our history women did marry when they were first capable to bare children but at that time the average life expectancy of a human was 30-40 years and we had to deal with issues like the black plague and the crusades.
