Dont forget that until the Renaissance Averrois was studied by every physician in Europe. His treaties on medicine were something like a bible for physicians. And while in most Europe people were burnt alive as witches, the Arabs were already practising what we call nowadays chemistry and practising anatomy studies. Even in Islam you have to eat, right? So you have consumption. You need to grow something to eat, right? So you have production. This is the fundamental true about any economy. The problem about modern day capitalism isnt about that fundamental truth. The problem is the unethical behavior of corporations influenced by a galloping neoliberalism. Its neoliberalism that goes against Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and any type of ethical behavior.

I agree with you that free trade is an indicator of democracy, but its not the only one. Its not even the most important one. But civil rights, free and fair elections, rule of law, corruption, military and police control, government accountability, etc. are far more important indicators of democracy than just free trade. Unlike what economists say democracy isnt about money or free trade, its about free will.
