Transport
Ian O'Neill
Car enthusiast

My name is Ian O'Neill. I've always had a nice car. I bought my first car when I was twenty-one, a Nissan Micra. Your car is your identity.
I bought my car, a Volkswagen Golf, two years ago. I pay just over €100 for road taxes and get forty miles to the gallon. I do a lot of driving all around the country, so it doesn't really cost much. I'm happy to be able to drive a car I like and save money because it has low emissions.

John Clarke
Bike shop owner

I work at Think Bike in Rathmines, Dublin. There's been a big upsurge in cycling in the last couple years, a lot of it due to the Bike to Work scheme. It's gotten people on bikes that haven't been on bikes in maybe fifteen or twenty years. This has a snowball effect in people's offices and workplaces. It's given people the opportunity to get a bike that maybe they wouldn't have afforded before and as a result, they're more likely and willing to cycle regularly - they find how easy it is.
Some businesses have really taken up the scheme and have adapted their facilities to encouraged cycling to the office. It has become a fitness and competition thing in the workplace too.A lot of those people wouldn't have cycled if it wasn't for the Bike to Work scheme. It gave them the opportunity to get a bike and get going.

Since the Green Party introduced the CO2 emissions based car tax system, 80,000 drivers have switched to low emissions vehicles. The Cycle to Work Scheme has encouraged thousands of commuters our of their cars and onto their bikes.

  • The Greens do not accept corporate donations and are the only party to actively work to ban such donations. They received the LEAST donations, even less than Sinn Fein because builders and lobbyists know they cannot be bought.

  • @Heahmount I've check out the BBC website and searched for what you describe and found only one article from the X-Ray team warning about problems if it is not fitted properly, and mentioning surveyors failing to check houses properly beforehand for suitability. I don't see how surveyors and builders failing to do their jobs properly is the fault of the Greens. But then again, they are blamed for everything that happened form 2002 to 2007. If I've missed your evidence, please give the link.

  • @Heahmount Thank you. You have shown your true quality.

I found it very bizarre that you were stating things that were clearly false: The Greens actually receive the least donations, and have reduced the bills of the poor through the warmer homes scheme. All of their taxation policies are progressive, not regressive.

You said only one thing with an element of truth. The Greens PROUDLY support FULL marriage equality for all couples.

    All couples.

    All of them.

    Equally.

    Vote Green.

  • @Heahmount That's misusung the word 'facts'. The Greens have incentivised buying low emmissions vehicle for those who were going to buy anyway. No fewer or greater number are buying or not due to this change. The economic crisis on the other hand, brought about by the failure of a previous government to introduce Green reforms, has something to do with fewer people buying cars. If you have a link regarding your claim on terrible consequences of home insulation please post, I am very interested.
