On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, the Aurora City Council voted on a mayoral appointee, Avis Miller, for the controversial Aurora Housing Authority (AHA) board.
As an agenda item open to comments or questions, Alderman Rick Lawrence wanted to get the opinion of the appointee before voting, but Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns (who's husband is on the AHA board) objected.
Mayor Tom Weisner would not permit questions from the City Council to the mayoral appointee and threatened to have Alderman Lawrence removed.
Should city council members be allowed to ask questions in this situation? That's the question...watch the video to hear the debate for yourself.
