The event run by BTCV and York St. Johns University, York, was a great success with lots of students volunteering their time to clean up the River Ouse in York as part of the Big Tidy Up, the countrys largest litter tidy up, organised by Keep Britain Tidy.
Over 16 bags of rubbish were collected along the 3954 metre (8km) stretch of river, with both a water and bank collection team working together. The teams found some interesting items namely a supermarket trolley, a dinghy, a rusty bike, two mopeds and a safe!
The activity was organised with grant support from Greenprints and the canoes were loaned by York Canoe Club and LT Adventure.
