Francis Poulencs concerto for organ, timpani and string orchestra differs from other organ concertos like those of george frideric handel in that two kettledrums play a solo role. the concerto has only one movement and evades the usual formal approaches. an ominous sounding sequence of the notes G-B flat frequently recurs in the course of the work.

Das 1938 beendete konzert für orgel, pauken und streichorchester in g moll von francis poulenc unterscheidet sich von anderen konzerten mit orgelbegleitung, etwa jener barocken eines georg friedrich händel, insbesondere durch die solistische verwendung von zwei pauken. das konzert ist einsätzig angelegt und entzieht sich im aufbau gängigen formansätzen. eine bedrohlich wirkende tonfolge G-B kehrt im verlaufe des konzertes an vielen stellen wieder.
