The Great Famine (Irish: an Gorta Mór meaning "the great hunger" or an Drochshaol meaning "the bad life") was a period of mass starvation, disease and emigration in Ireland between 1845 and 1852 during which the island's population dropped by 20 - 25 percent.

makes me wonder what lays ahead for the ppl of today, with capatalism being the powers that dictate to our societies,! what chance do the poorest ppl of our nations have? And no matter the era it all stems from one ruling land who love to rule over others , , , just junked up on riches and power ...... power addiction will become their error ;) ppl rob banks and get jailed...banks rob the ppl and get big bonuses ... As an irish person I think it is important not to forget this great tragedy, but at the same time we should move on from it. People posting on here with meaningless insults are more to be pitied as they obviously have a chip on their shoulder - why else would they feel the need to put others down if not to make themselves feel more important? And why would they feel the need to be more important unless they felt insignificant to begin with?

great video! you should do one on the workhouses if you get a chance! from the research i've done - i'd nearly have preferred to have been starving and destitute rather than go into one of those!
