From a doll house to the big house, recent studies say young females are among the fastest growing prison population in the nation.

Prison officials say more and more young women are getting locked up for violent crimes these days. Audrey Washington introduces you to two young women spending their days behind bars at the Fountain Correctional Facility for Women in Rocky Mount.

@lovelyladynostalgic, we could discuss that at length… Sure, violent women have always existed. Yet in some civilizations, women's violence was culturally inhibited – for instance, in 19th century European society – with all good and bad sides of inhibition. It was very different with ancient Romans, who were taught the examples of heroic women, warring Amazons, etc. There was not "one" homogeneous ancient society vs. our modern world, but many !

I wouldn't call it the darker side of women's liberation. Women have been killing and commiting crimes just as long as men have. Look at one of the first identified female serial killers, recorded in A.D 69 OF ANCIENT ROME! "Locusta the Poisoner," and during that time, women weren't encouraged to be aggressive or combative like their male counterparts.

You are right to doubt. Don't believe what you see in pornography or in the realm of your fantasies. The majority of women who are homicidal are usually extremely overtly, physically aggressive and known for their sadism and manipulation. What goes on, is more fights for position, respect as well as "broom sticking," which is the female equivalent of "male-jail ass rape." A violent, excruciating technique often carried out during a gang-rape of a soft, new female inmate.

Not necessarily, it all depends on the specific prison. Some prisons don't discriminate and give women preferential treatment, especially the female prisoners who are known for their aggression, sadism and keen liking for intimidating their fellow inmates. These prisoners resort to rape or "broomsticking," to affirm their authority within the female hierarchal system of prisons. It really isn't all that different (but of course, in some prisons, it is-but not as common).
