I have written and verbal Permission to use the Pictures and music in this video. (With the exeption of the declaration of independence which is a public document avalible at the national arvhives.)
PLEASE READ THIS! Explanation and Text!

This Video was shot at several locations throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. I hope it explains what the declaration means. Unfortunatly my Audio didn't come out as well as I had hoped due to lack of a profesional Mic, so I appologize for that. Also would like to thank everyone who helped me film this.

On July 2nd, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was unanimously
adopted by the Continental Congress. Within this document are these
famous words:

"We hold these truths, to be self-evident. That all men are created
equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain
un-alienable rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the
pursuit of Happiness..." Among the thirteen-hundred thirty-eight words
that comprise the Declaration of Independence is a list of charges
against the crown of England that include:

-Rigging of Public Office

-Manipulation of the Law

-Military aggression

-Taxation without representation

As well as many other injustices perceived by the colonists during
their time in England and the new world.

Though these events happened over 230 years ago, during a time of
oppression from the governmental hierarchy the colonies were subject
to, many people ask what they have to do with today.

The Declaration of Independence is the cornerstone on which our
government was built, and by which it is guided. It outlines the
rights given to us, and the privileges we desire, providing a
reference point and reminder for generations of legislators to follow.
The Declaration of Independence was, and is, a renouncement of the
control of governments that rule by tyranny and force, as opposed to
freedom and democracy. Our fore fathers laid the first stone, and used
it to define what our government would be, and would never be, as
well. Without it, the legislature which governs our country today
would be nothing more than a reiteration of the governments we sought
to leave.

But Freedom isn't Free.The Declaration of Independence was paid for
with our Founding Father's lives as they fought to give life to a new
nation, and grant them the freedom from subjugation and tyranny they
had long endured. An estimated 25,000 gave their lives during the war
for Independence, in one form or another. In the last year alone,
America lost over 4,000 soldiers. Men and women who gave their lives
so that we could continue enjoying the freedoms of every day life here
in America.

Though we may stumble, our foundation will continue to stand strong
for as long as we never forget what our forefathers committed to:

"...for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the
protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our
Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." - John Hancock

  • It's really sad that the majority of American kids have NO IDEA what the Declaration of Independence is.

    Thanks for this great video and giving me some hope that not ALL of our youth is ignorant and having the minds being shaped by liberal professors.

  • This video definitely should be entered in the 1776 the musical video contest in the "student" category. The contest is "best video under 5 min. featuring a character from the musical "1776".
