Conímbriga is, truly, a place in time. Every year I make it a standing appointment to spend a summer afternoon walking around the area, delighting myself in the sight of nearly 1900 year old stone walls and constructions being bathed by sunlight. No smoking is allowed inside the perimeter of the archaeological site, unfortunately, so this time I took a camera. Poetry and music walked beside me, as always, echoing inside my mind.

Many thanks to my friend Maria for letting me photograph the museum after closing time and a fine dinner.

- About Conímbriga -

Located near my town, Coimbra, it is the best preserved and one of most significant remaining areas from the Roman settlements in Portugal, the exact size of the city remaining unknown as new finding continue to appear regularly.

Its remotest origins date back to the 9th century B.C. findings, back when the region became populated due to its proximity to a river and its fertile lands. Most of what can be seen in these pictures, however, belongs to the period between the 2nd and 3rd century A.D., when the Roman Empire invaded the Iberian Peninsula.

  • I have a lot of catching up to do on videos. This was quite a treat!! Please share photos of the Alhambra if you happen to venture east. :P

I would very much like to travel Europe some day. Looks as if I will have to make Lisboa and Coimbra part of the travel plans. My distant relatives hail from Trujillo, so it would be entirely within the realm of possibility.

    Keep these coming!!

  • Bruno!A great video and I like the music too.

    Take care

  • @DailyPuffer Ahaha, I don't really remember any inappropriate frescoes from Pompei. However, the tour started by looking at several carbonized corpses, which are trully impressing and give a real perspective of the magnitude of the disaster. That day's memories remain pretty vivid in my mind. It's definitelly a highly recomended place to visit.

  • @MrBlink182ishi Thanks! I truly appreciate it.
