You miss the mark on some of your statements, namely that ubuntu is user friendly... the desktop manager, GNOME, is what you find so user friendly... you can install GNOME on any GNU/Linux distro you'd like and theme it as you wish (often it's the default actually). Unfortunately, Ubuntu encourages the use of restricted drivers and kernel BLOB's to function with non free firmware and hardware devices instead of resisting & putting pressure on hardware companies to release their drivers under GPL

stopping software patents doesn't mean not to provide any support and services. you're confusing the issue.

WOW, Sam look at Article 1 section 8 of the US consitution. James madison and the other fathers of the country relized that invenitions and New IP's are what makes progress in society. Without patent and copywrite laws, inventors wouldn't have any incentive you work. These laws not only protect M$ and Apple, they protect you and me from M$. BOOO nnasby63, he's not a patent attorney.

If you want to stop software patents, then you have no real understanding of how businesses operate do you?

Businesses dont operate for free....
Mark Shuttleworth recently said he doesnt believe that theres money to be made from free software...He believes the only way to make money from OSS is providing support and services (Ubuntu makes $, but is not profitable).
Shuttleworth said he will continue to fund Ubuntu for only 3-5 more years.
He wants the project to be profitable...
SHOWS WHAT YOU KNOW.

shows what you know :) openBSD and the BSD distro s have been free since the 70s i only support ubuntu for its goals to make user friendly pushing othersdistros to do so hell if ubuntu starts charging i can easily fo to one of the other 263 + distros the free software foundation has rules about using the GNU license. the ENTIRE GNU project is based simply off donations also we are talking about major software patents like example MS patenting the close button on a OS did you even see the form?
