From Zimbabwean cassette.

After the song, Jonah explains how he got the idea to try to imitate the mbira on the guitar.

Ndangwara comments:

" "Kuyaura" means terrible anguish

"vasina musha" means those who have no home

He was singing from the context of the displacement of many black Zimbabweans during the liberation war mainly because of the Rhodesian army. Some sought refuge in the neighbouring countries( the Frontline States) while others were forced into the so-called protected village where they were monitored closely.

He is further asking where the elders and the spirit mediums are to provide guidance to the people. We always evoke the spirits of our ancestors.

Counsel is sought from

1. the mediums of our departed ancestors ( in the Shona culture certain individuals become the mediums ["homwe" literaly meaning a pocket] and the spirits will speak through them. These individuals ( who will now be known by the name of the spirit speaking through them) become the link between the world of the living and that of the departed.

and

2. the elders in our communities. Age is revered in our culture because it is accumulated and distilled wisdom we refer them affectionately as "vakatanga kuona zuva" meaning those who were first to see the sun.

And so these two pillars are what would traditionally provide advice.

Now, given this explanation, you will understand why I see the deja vu again under RM. Many are going out of Zimbabwe or making an effort to leave.

Thanks to the efforts of contributors like you, they will not lose contact with their roots.

This song, together with Pvumvu Paruzevha, really sums up the sad chronicle of a revolution that is destroying its own."
