From The Piper's Call video by Liam O'Flynn & The Piper's Call Band Featuring Carlos Nunez from Galicia on Gaita. - Available for download from iTunes, Amazon, etc. -
In 1997 Liam started work on the follow-up to his award-winning album 'The Given Note' After nine months work Liam, together with his long time musical companion Arty McGlynn, produced what he considers his finest recording to date 'The Piper's Call'.
For 'The Piper's Call' Liam brought together some of Ireland's top musicians including Arty McGlynn (guitar), Steve Cooney (guitar), Rod McVey (keyboards) and Liam Bradley (percussion), who provide a perfect setting for Liam's piping on tracks such as 'The Humours of Kiltyclogher', 'Miss Admiral Gordon's Strathspey ' and 'The Humours of Carrigaholt Set ' amongst others.
Liam is also joined on this recording by good friends and virtuoso musicians, Sean Keane whose superb virtuoso fiddle playing can be heard on a number of tracks and on ''The Gold Ring' his playing is particularly memorable. On 'The Drunken Landlady / McKenna' Reels' Liam and Sean are joined by another good friend Matt Molloy. In 1997 Liam was asked to compose a piece of music for the inauguration of Ireland's President Mary McAleese 'An Droichead' (The Bridge), which is the theme of her presidency, for the recording of this track Liam is joined by the incomparable Mark Knopfler on guitar which serves to make this track one of the highlights of the album. Top Galician piper Carlos Núñez joins Liam for the two Galician tracks, 'Muiñeira de Poio / Muiñeira de Ourense,' and 'Marcha de Breixo / Marcha de Lousame'. The final ingredient on this superb album is the version of 'Bean Dubh a Ghleanna' with The Irish Chamber Orchestra arranged and conducted by Micheál O'Súilleabháin.

  • It's not a Highland Pipe... it's a Galician one, and it's a Muiñeira, a traditional galician rythm...

  • I met Carlos Nunez a couple of years ago! He was very polite and down-to-earth!

  • You will find a larger collection of longer video clips on the Tara Music website.

  • @jimyperez: He asks "Don't you have the complete video?" and "Do you know where I can find it?" Thank you; my point exactly. :|

  • I know they want to sell the Piper's Call video, but they could have included this one tune complete and uncut, instead of a clip that is so short, it is not really possible to get a sense of what's on offer... I would not have bought the video, if this was all I heard. Quite foolish...

  • Aha!
