Daniel O'Donnell - Destination Donegal

Lyrics:

As I stand above the starboard bow and watch the ocean foam
As I view each new horizon I grow further from my home
I'm sailing on a foreign ship, that's bound for Montreal
But I'd give the world to make my destination Donegal

I would make my way from Malin to Bundoran through Raphoe
Or Portsalon down to Killybegs by Creeslough and Dungloe
I'd wander around by Barnesmore Gap to everyone I'd call
And beyond the Bluestack mountains to the town of Donegal

Oh Donegal I miss you and I'll never understand
Why I left you for those far off lands, against my hearts command
Whatever fortune comes my way, whatever may befall
I know I'll make my final destination Donegal

I know I'll make my final destination Donegal

  • Daniels wonderful voice and the beautiful pictures from Ireland - I just love both.

  • tyrconnellabu, thanks for the encouragement. Until I can make such a trip I feel lucky to have this song and the tour the video gives me. I feel like I'm there when I hear Daniel sing of it. Thanks

  • No mention of Ballyshannon, but a very beautiful song anyway!! :-)

  • @kate285 My 3sets of grear grandparenta were from Donegal. 1 set from Cork. There is not another county in Irelsnd that can match the beauty of the land or the people .

  • Larryo'; Just do it!, ...it's a heavenly coastline you wont have any regrets.

I've done it in a hire car twice and in my own car once from Larne on the Antrim coast, it's got to be why so many songs are made about Donegal.

  • One of his best, the song just carries you away. Makes one want to see Donegal.
