A little background on how these two boys ended up playing music together:

Qristina and Quinn performed at the Nanaimo Maple Sugar Festival on February 22, 2009. It was their 3 consecutive year playing at this francophone event where performers come from as far away as PEI and Lousiana. The shows are mainly held in the Cabane du Sucre (The Sugar Shack), there's a beautiful big stage, Quebecois food is being served, and there's even room for dancing. That's were Qristina & Quinn have always played. However, there are a couple of other outdoor performance tents. We usually just leave after Q & Q's performance but this time we wondered outside to a small tent were a young boy (Alexandre Caron) was playing some amazing button accordion. Someone was playing piano along with him, but unfortunately the piano was really out of tune and everyone seemed quite frustrated with the situation. Quinn approached Alexandre to ask him if he could help with guitar accompaniment. He said yes. This was at the end of Alexandre's set, so the two boys only got about 15 minutes to play together, unrehearsed, unprepared, anything goes style... Although they couldn't communicate with words, they certainly made a great musical connection.

Alexandre returned to Quebec the next day and although we live so far apart, and Alexandre and his family don't speak English, and our French is pretty bad, we're hoping to get these two together again some time soon. (Marie Bachand)

PS: I didn't take this video, got it from Alexandre's dad in the form of a DVD which I had a hard time transferring into my computer and editing into Youtube. Sorry.

  • The connection's so kewl. I'm wondering what the songs were? Maybe the last one...what would that be? Thanks! :D

  • The first tune is St. Anne's Reel, a popular tune from Quebec. I don't know the name of the second tune, but probably something popular in Quebec or from Quebec.... maybe someone out there can answer that....?

  • Okay, righto. I was, in fact, mainly wondering about the last one. It's so beautiful, and it seems liek it'd be fun to fiddle with. Great stuff, Quinn! Esp. the deep slide at 3:01-3:03!!

  • oh, you mean the last 10 seconds..? that would be La Bastringue (another popular tune from Quebec), we play it too, and it's on our CD so check it out! Quinn

  • I'm sorry, Quinn...I'm referring to the tune immediately after the first one, St. Anne's reel. That's the one I'm unfamiliar with. But oh well, I'll just do some more digging sometime. Thanks so much for your time!!
