I predominantly use ring-middle-index patterns for triplets. when im going faster than that,I use a rapid 4 fingered(pinky/ring/middle/index) motion to match a guitarists tremolo picking.

the three finger thing is using ur index, ring, then middle finger to play. it takes a little bit to get good at it, but its not at all extremely hard
