Just a chronological compilation of GI Joe intros following Sunbow's end of involvement with the animated series. These no longer followed the format of the self-contained adventure as Sunbow's titles did. You'll also notice a wide variety of animation styles reflecting some of the trends at the time. Possibly reflecting the cheaper budgets and factory mentality that some of these may have been produced under, just look at the difference following Sunbow's work (going from G.I. Joe: The Movie) and the ones by DiC.

Here's a breakdown on what is in the clip.

1989
Operation: Dragonfire miniseries by DiC
*note that they now call G.I. Joe "international" heroes

1990 - 1991
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series by DiC
*Destro with a gold head...the hell?

1996 - 1997
G.I. Joe Extreme series by Gunther-Wahl Productions
*WTF

2005
G.I. Joe Sigma Six Season One by GONZO and 4Kids Entertainment

2006
G.I. Joe Sigma Six Season Two

2009
G.I. Joe Resolute movie intro
The movie was the compilation of the webisodes it was initially released as.

  • Wow, the original GI Joe intro song is so awesome, the new songs suck!

Btw, GI Joe Renegades, on TV right now, is really good!

  • @MakeYouFeelBetterNow I agree! I wasn't sure about it at first, but it grew on me especially when they started expanding into things like the Arashikage. Also like what they did with Cobra and Cobra Commander as a villain. Hope that they continue it.

  • I remember those re-colored toys. Never saw the cartoons that had them, though. Or the new Cobra Commander, either. I guess that makes sense, given what year it was.

Was the Cobra-La movie the last Sunbow production?

  • Yep. And here's a funky fact to go along with that: Cobra-La was supposed to be a placeholder name for a cooler one that that writers wanted, but Hasbro liked "Cobra-La" and forced them to keep it in the final animation.

  • @MightyDancer80 1989's is still close to the earlier ones. But as soon as I hear the words "Got to get tough", it's not the same.

  • I purchased the first season of the DIC series the other day, after 3 episodes me and my kids were done; what garbage! Thank God we still have the Sunbow series and Resolute.

  • @mandowar17 I 100% agree, International Hero, its American Hero not international and why wasn't Cobra mentioned as the enemy in the theme? The first theme is definitely stupid.

  • AMERICAN HERO! Wtf is with international thing.

  • the first song is stupid! G.I. Joe is an American hero! YO JOE!

  • International heroes my ass! I'm the biggest globalist of them all, but that's just stupid. Make up a new team of international heroes to show worldwide, G I Joe is American.

  • yea I'll take the got to get tough intro any day of the week, after watching the others they fall in comparison also I grew up on that one so a little bias

  • @chibicelchan hmm, hadn't thought that CC looked like Shredder in this period. Maybe that was the idea to being with...

  • the "Got to get tough" intro is the best GI JOE song ever. Every time i hear it i get pumped up.

  • @Dragonrider1227 because europe has a very selective collective memory
